Walks

Gorges de Galamus en pays cathare

Signposted walks in the high Corbières. Circuits of 2 to 4 hours based on a variety of themes.

You will find guides to the walks at the office of the Communauté de Communes de Mouthoumet, in shops at Davejean, Laroque de Fa, Soulatge, Villerouge-Termenès, Vignevieille, Félines-Termenès, Lanet and at the castles of Termes and Villerouge-Termenès

Soulatgé

LibelluleIn the centre of the Corbières where cool spots are few, Soulatgé enjoys the fresh water from several springs. Not far from the river Verdouble, it became a meeting point where families and their livestockcould settle.

On our walk the dragonfly will show us the quiet corners, the miniature waterfalls in the leafy shade, a story quietly told by the murmuring waters.

Lairière

DinosauresTerrific beasts, dinosaurs. Since their discovery in the lower Jurassic chalk in Great Britain, these monsters of the secondary era have impressed themselves in our subconscious just as they have in the earth. Those who know how to look at the contorted hillsides will recognise the traces of their passing. But you will need experience, patience and a keen eye to follow in their footsteps. Our walk through the history of the earth at Lairière will be in their company.

Bouisse

MoutonA sheep will be our guide, even though sometimes an astonished cow will watch you pass by this cool and green village where the animals graze peacefully.

Bouisse is certainly one of the most agricultural, one of the greenest of villages, one might say “the Corbières’ mountain pasture”.

Félines Termenès

LézardStone and fire met here long ago and gave birth to the iron-working industry and the art of the blacksmith. The mineral resources were exploited until the Middle Ages.

Lanet/Salza

OiseauAbsinthe, which served in the manufacture of the dangerous liqueur very popular during the 19th century, is to be found at the side of this path.

Montjoi

AigleCircling above the open plains, the eagle spies out his prey. He doesn't fear many predators but knows that he must be on his guard against his old enemy of the summits: the great crow.

Albières

A pleasant stroll through beech and chestnut woods or, on a mountain bike, a visit to the castle tower, built in the 12th century for the archbishop of Narbonne. The remains we see today were part of the defences of the village of Albières.

Auriac

For a long time it was believed that gold was to be found here. But it was copper, silver and barytes which were mined here until the start of the 20th century.

Termes

Below your feet, the 400m-deep gorges bear witness to the violent shock provoked by the creation of the Pyrenees in the Jurassic era.
